According to an official release from London Borough of Hillingdon, a taxi driver was ordered to pay more than £650 after breaching a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) by waiting unlawfully near Heathrow Airport. The council said the enforcement action followed restrictions designed to prevent congestion and unauthorised waiting around the airport.

DM News Commentary
This case should act as a serious warning to anyone meeting passengers at Heathrow — not just drivers, but the public as well.
A common issue we hear about is drivers waiting near the airport while the passengers clear arrivals, collect bags, or deal with delays. That is no longer a minor risk — it’s a fast track to enforcement, fines, and court costs.
From the driver’s perspective, this is brutal. Heathrow work is already expensive and tightly controlled, with limited authorised waiting options and high costs attached to doing things “by the book”. But this case shows that even a short wait in the wrong place can lead to penalties well beyond a day’s earnings.
Enforcement around Heathrow is clearly being stepped up, and there’s little room for discretion. If you’re travelling through the airport, always meet drivers at authorised pick-up points and avoid asking them to wait outside official facilities. Anything else could cost them hundreds of pounds.
If you get caught, pay the fine before it gets very expensive.
