London, September 2025 – The GMB Union has announced that it will be meeting with Uber later this month to raise a series of pressing issues on behalf of its members. Drivers across the UK have voiced concerns over pay, safety, app functionality, and support — and union representatives are determined to secure answers.

Key Issues Facing Uber Drivers
Following consultation with GMB members, the union has outlined 15 areas of concern that will be raised directly with Uber:
- Declining Earnings – Drivers report earning less today than three years ago, despite similar working conditions. GMB will press Uber on its response to the Oxford University report into falling driver incomes.
- Uber Share – Drivers want the service separated from UberX due to safety and pay concerns.
- Driver Name Display – Currently, drivers’ middle names are visible to riders. Members want this changed to improve privacy.
- Profile Photo Privacy – Riders can screenshot driver profile photos. GMB is calling for restrictions to stop this.
- Wait-Time Clock Issues – Wait time often fails to start if drivers cannot reach riders directly, especially at large events.
- Job Card Interference – New job alerts take over the entire screen, blocking navigation and other safety-critical information.
- Multiple-Stop Trips – The clock does not start when drivers arrive at the first stop, leading to lost income.
- Boost Incentives – Drivers who opt into Uber’s “boost” scheme report fewer jobs than usual, undermining the purpose of the feature.
- Support After Vehicle Damage – When cars are damaged and accounts suspended, drivers want Uber to provide some form of support.
- Birmingham Airport Issues – Concerns include the queuing system, rematch process, fake trips, and car park facilities.
- Airport Trip Radar – Problems with how trip radar functions at airports will be raised.
- Disability Access in Scotland – Drivers say there is a shortage of suitable accessible vehicles.
- Data Retention – Members want clarity on what data Uber retains when false allegations are made.
- Green Light Hub in Scotland – GMB says drivers are facing staffing and accessibility issues at Uber support hubs.
- Sick Pay Criteria – Drivers want a review of the current eligibility rules, which are seen as too restrictive.
Earnings and Algorithm Concerns
Driver earnings are expected to be a central topic. A recent Oxford University study found Uber’s changes to dynamic pricing had cut driver income in real terms, while Uber’s share of fares has increased significantly. GMB is pressing for greater transparency and fairer conditions for drivers.
What Happens Next
The union has confirmed that it will provide a full update to members after the meeting later in September. For many drivers, the outcome will be crucial in shaping the future of their working conditions with Uber.
