Porsche has confirmed it will introduce wireless inductive charging with the launch of the new Cayenne Electric in 2026, making it the first major carmaker to offer this technology as a factory-fit option.
How the System Works
The new system allows drivers to simply park over a charging pad installed on their driveway or garage floor. A receiver coil under the Cayenne automatically aligns with the base plate, using ultra-wideband positioning and Porsche’s Surround View parking assist. The SUV can even lower itself slightly to optimise efficiency before charging begins.
With a capacity of 11 kW, the system matches the performance of a typical home wallbox, delivering practical overnight charging without the need for plugging in.

Convenience and Safety Features
The charging plate is weatherproof and drive-over safe, designed to withstand everyday use. Safety has been prioritised, with built-in motion and foreign object detection – ensuring that charging pauses if a pet, person, or object enters the field.
The wireless charger is also smart-enabled, with LTE and WLAN connectivity for over-the-air updates. Owners can manage charging times, monitor energy use, and pre-condition the car through the My Porsche app.
Efficiency and Future Potential
Porsche claims the system delivers around 90% efficiency, only slightly behind conventional wired chargers which average around 94%. While it may not replace high-power public DC fast chargers, the technology offers a huge convenience boost for home and office use.
Industry experts believe Porsche’s move could accelerate the adoption of inductive charging, with potential to expand across future models and even influence standards for other manufacturers.
