Wiltshire Police confirmed they are treating the incident as racially aggravated and have launched an investigation. Officers have appealed for witnesses, particularly anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have information that could assist enquiries. The incident occurred at around 11.30pm, a time when people were leaving the club.

Police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and quote the crime reference number when contacting them. The force stressed that hate-related incidents are taken seriously and that abusive behaviour towards workers will not be tolerated.

DM News Commentary

Sadly, stories like this are all too familiar within the taxi and private hire trade. Drivers regularly work late nights, often alone, dealing with intoxicated passengers and hostile situations simply for doing their job. Racial abuse has absolutely no place in society, and drivers should never be expected to tolerate it as “part of the job”.

Incidents like this highlight why stronger protections, clearer reporting routes, and consistent enforcement are essential. No driver should feel unsafe while earning a living, and it’s vital that cases like this are taken seriously to send a clear message that abuse of any kind will not be ignored.
