Unlicensed taxi driver jailed for 32 years over decades of sexual offences

An unlicensed taxi driver from Normanby has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for a string of violent sexual offences spanning several decades.

63-year-old Edwin Youll was jailed at Teesside Crown Court on Monday 13 October 2025, after being found guilty in July of 26 charges including rape and sexual assault.

Targeting vulnerable victims

The offences, which date back to the 1990s, involved Youll preying on vulnerable women and children. According to Cleveland Police, he used his position as an unlicensed taxi driver to approach victims, becoming violent when they refused to comply. Officers said he sometimes used knives to threaten and control his victims.

“Justice has been served”

Detective Superintendent Stuart Hodgson, Senior Investigating Officer for Cleveland Police, praised the survivors for their bravery:

“Firstly I would like to thank the brave victims who came forward and gave harrowing accounts of the horrendous sexual abuse carried out by Edwin Youll.
Whilst the experiences will stay with them forever, I am pleased that this chapter has now come to a close and that justice has been served, and Youll will now spend a significant time behind bars.”

Police said Youll’s conviction followed years of work by specialist officers and that the case highlighted the importance of reporting offences, regardless of how long ago they occurred.
