Uber has been operating in Blackpool for a while mainly Wolverhampton drivers, Blackpool licensed private hire drivers couldn’t work Uber since they didn’t have an operator’s license, until now. The positive in this news is now local Blackpool private hire drivers can work the Uber platform instead of watching out-of-town drivers working while they cannot.
Local taxi companies tried to stop this by protesting and blocking roads etc because they didn’t want Uber to operate in Blackpool which can take work from local companies, the issue is due to the cross-border hiring rules Uber can not be stopped.
