Uber drivers across the UK are being offered a new home charging deal after Uber partnered with energy technology company Pod to help drivers transition to electric vehicles. The company has teamed up with Uber to launch an exclusive home EV charging offer aimed specifically at ride-hailing drivers.
The offer introduces Pod Drive, a home EV charging subscription that allows Uber drivers to install a home charger with no upfront cost.
Instead of paying for the charger and installation upfront, drivers can access a Pod Point home charger for £25 per month over three years.
The subscription includes:
- Installation of a Pod Point home EV charger by a Which?-accredited installer
- No setup or installation costs
- 24/7 support
- Lifetime warranty
- Up to £170 per year in cash rewards through smart charging
The scheme is designed to reduce one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption for drivers — the initial cost of installing home charging equipment.
Debbie Foley, Chief Revenue Officer at Pod, said the partnership aims to make switching to electric vehicles easier for drivers using ride-hailing platforms.
She explained that removing the upfront cost of installing a charger and offering smart-charging rewards could help drivers reduce their running costs while using an EV for work.

Uber Electric Expands Across More UK Cities
The charger partnership comes as Uber continues expanding its Uber Electric ride option across the UK.
Uber recently confirmed the electric-only ride category has expanded to eight additional cities, including:
- Birmingham
- Manchester
- Leeds
- Sheffield
- Edinburgh
- Cambridge
- Belfast
- Merseyside
With Uber Electric, passengers can request a fully electric vehicle for the same price as UberX, allowing riders to choose a cleaner journey without paying extra.
Uber says access to charging infrastructure remains the biggest obstacle for drivers considering switching to electric vehicles, which is why partnerships like this one are being introduced.
Andrew Brem, General Manager for Uber UK, said improving charging access and reducing costs is key to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles.
DM News Commentary
For many drivers considering switching to an EV, home charging is the biggest advantage. Charging overnight on a cheap electricity tariff can dramatically reduce running costs compared to public rapid charging.
However, the installation cost of a home charger — which can often run into hundreds or even thousands of pounds depending on electrical work required — has been a barrier for many drivers.
A subscription model like this could remove that hurdle and make switching to electric far easier, particularly for full-time Uber drivers doing high mileage.
For drivers who already have off-street parking, a £25 monthly cost for a charger with installation included may be an attractive option, especially when combined with the potential smart-charging rewards.
That said, drivers will still need to weigh up whether a three-year subscription commitment makes sense compared to buying a charger outright.
As Uber continues pushing its Uber Electric category across more UK cities — including Merseyside and Manchester — incentives like this may become increasingly common as the platform encourages drivers to move towards electric vehicles.
