If you’re travelling to or from Liverpool John Lennon Airport over the next two weekends, be prepared for significant disruption due to major road closures on the A561 and A562.
Speke Boulevard and Speke Road, two main routes serving the airport, will be fully closed in both directions during the following times:
- From 10pm Friday 8 August to 11pm Sunday 10 August 2025
- From 4am Saturday 16 August to 4am Monday 18 August 2025
These works will impact traffic on the A561/A562, which runs between Liverpool South Parkway, Hunts Cross, and Speke – the primary corridor leading to the airport and surrounding areas.
Expect delays and plan ahead
The closure is expected to cause major congestion on diversion routes, especially at peak times and during airport check-in rushes. Travellers are strongly urged to:
- Allow extra time to reach the airport
- Plan alternative routes using navigation apps or traffic alerts
- Use airport transfer services with experienced local drivers familiar with the detours
Airport transfers still running
At DM Airport Transfers, we’re monitoring the closures and will be adjusting routes to minimise delays for all passengers. Our drivers have been briefed and will navigate accordingly. If you’re flying this weekend or next, please book in advance to avoid last-minute travel stress.
📍 Affected roads include:
- Speke Boulevard (A561)
- Speke Road (A562)
- Surrounding junctions near Speke Hall Avenue
🚧 The closure notice and diversion details can be viewed on Knowsley Council’s official roadworks page.
