Licensing enforcement officers have suspended a private hire vehicle after it was discovered parked on a taxi rank with illegal tyres.
According to a post shared by Liverpool City Council Licensing Enforcement on X, officers noticed a Sefton-licensed private hire vehicle parked on a taxi rank during routine monitoring. The situation immediately drew their attention, prompting a closer inspection of the vehicle.
In the update published on X, enforcement officers explained that once the vehicle was inspected, they discovered two illegal tyres, including one tyre with cords exposed, a serious safety defect that indicates the tyre tread has worn through to the internal structure.

As a result of the inspection, the vehicle licence was immediately suspended, preventing it from being used for private hire work until the issues are resolved. Authorities also confirmed that the driver will be summoned for offences related to the condition of the vehicle.
The update was originally shared by Liverpool City Council’s licensing enforcement team in a post on X highlighting the action taken during the inspection.
Maintaining safe vehicles is a key requirement for licensed private hire and taxi drivers across the UK, with tyres being one of the most common defects identified during roadside inspections and enforcement checks.
DM News Commentary
Vehicle safety checks are one of the most basic responsibilities for any taxi or private hire driver. Tyres in particular are something drivers should keep an eye on regularly, especially when vehicles are covering long distances each week.
Incidents like this also show how quickly enforcement can act when a vehicle is spotted breaking the rules. Parking a private hire vehicle on a taxi rank will already attract attention, and once officers inspect the vehicle, they can check everything from tyres and lights to licensing compliance.
For professional drivers, it’s a reminder that keeping vehicles roadworthy isn’t just about passing the annual licence inspection — daily checks can prevent situations like this from happening in the first place.
