Private hire drivers are being urged to ensure they are displaying their plates correctly after two alarming incidents were spotted this week.
The first involved a Liverpool City Council plated vehicle where the driver had trapped it in the rear plate to the rear window wiper, leaving it difficult to read. The second case concerned a Wolverhampton plated driver, whose plate was spotted lying loosely on the parcel shelf inside the car, again making it unreadable from outside.
Both of these methods breach licensing regulations, which state that plates must be clearly fixed to the outside of the vehicle at all times and easily visible to enforcement officers, passengers, and the general public.
Failing to correctly display a private hire plate can lead to serious consequences including fines, penalty points on your licence, and even suspension or revocation of your private hire licence.
