Police Mistake Seat Covers for Suspicious Pair at Birmingham Airport Car Park

Police officers responding to reports of suspicious activity at Birmingham Airport were left red-faced after discovering the supposed suspects were, in fact, two car seat covers designed to look like people.

The unusual incident unfolded earlier this week when officers on patrol spotted what appeared to be two individuals sitting motionless in a parked car at one of the airport’s car parks. Concerned by the lack of movement and unusual circumstances, police approached the vehicle to investigate further.

On closer inspection, they realised the “passengers” were actually novelty seat covers, complete with lifelike faces and upper bodies stitched into the fabric.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed the bizarre case, noting that while the situation was ultimately harmless, officers had acted appropriately given the potential security risks in and around major UK airports.

“Our officers received a report of two people acting suspiciously at Birmingham Airport’s car park. After making enquiries, it turned out they were not people at all, but seat covers designed to look like passengers. While this gave us a laugh afterwards, we always take airport security seriously and encourage the public to report anything unusual.”

The discovery sparked amusement among travellers and airport staff, with photos of the unusual car interior quickly circulating online. Many commented on how realistic the covers appeared, especially from a distance.

The incident highlights both the vigilance of airport police and the sometimes unexpected situations they encounter while keeping the travelling public safe.
