  • Uber launches “Uber Electric” in Liverpool and Manchester at the same price as UberX Uber has introduced a new ride option called Uber Electric in both Liverpool and Manchester, giving passengers the ability to request a fully electric vehicle for the same price as a standard UberX trip. The new category is designed to encourage the use of electric vehicles on the platform while also giving passengers a way to choose a cleaner and often newer vehicle when booking a ride. With Uber Electric, passengers who select the option will only be matched with drivers operating fully electric cars. Unlike premium categories such as Uber Comfort or Uber Exec, the price is intended to remain the same as a normal UberX journey, meaning passengers can choose an EV without paying extra. Electric vehicles used on the platform are typically newer models with modern interiors and smoother rides, which may make the experience more comfortable for passengers compared to some older petrol or diesel cars still operating under the standard UberX category. For example, a typical UberX ride might be fulfilled by an older small car such as a Toyota Yaris or Ford Fiesta, while electric vehicles on the platform are often models like the Kia e-Niro, Tesla Model 3, MG4, Hyundai Kona Electric, or similar EVs, which tend to be newer and more refined. Because of this, the new option may appeal to riders looking for a quieter, smoother, and more environmentally friendly journey without paying a premium. The move is also expected to support Uber’s wider push towards electrification on the platform, as the company continues encouraging drivers to switch to electric vehicles in many cities. For drivers already operating EVs, the new category could help increase visibility and demand from passengers specifically wanting an electric ride. DM News Commentary From a passenger perspective, Uber Electric could be one of the best value ride options available. Electric cars are generally newer, quieter, and more comfortable, so being able to request one at the same price as UberX increases the chances of getting a better vehicle without paying extra. Normally when booking a standard UberX, the vehicle you receive can vary widely — from a fairly new car to something 10–15 years old that still meets the platform requirements. Uber Electric reduces that uncertainty by ensuring the vehicle is an EV, which in most cases will be a modern car with a nicer interior and smoother ride. For drivers already running electric cars, it’s also good news, as it highlights EV drivers on the platform and could increase trip requests from passengers who specifically want an electric vehicle.
