Mercedes-Benz Reveals All-New Electric VLE With 700 km Range and Luxury MPV Design

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new electric VLE, a next-generation luxury people carrier designed to combine limousine comfort with the versatility of a large MPV. The announcement comes from a recent press release by Mercedes-Benz, which introduces the VLE as the first vehicle built on the company’s new modular Van Architecture platform.

According to the announcement published by Mercedes-Benz Media, the VLE is designed to redefine how space, comfort, and digital technology come together in a premium electric vehicle. The model can seat up to eight passengers and is intended to suit a wide range of uses, from family travel to luxury shuttle services.

The new VLE blends the ride comfort of a limousine with the practicality of an MPV. Mercedes-Benz says the vehicle has been engineered to offer both smooth long-distance travel and exceptional versatility for passengers and luggage.

The design also focuses heavily on aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of just 0.25, helping improve efficiency and driving range.

Over 700 km Electric Range and 800-Volt Fast Charging

One of the headline features of the VLE is its long electric range. Mercedes-Benz states the vehicle will offer more than 700 kilometres of WLTP range, placing it among the longest-range electric MPVs currently planned.

The VLE also uses 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing extremely fast charging. Mercedes-Benz says the vehicle can gain up to 355 kilometres of range in around 15 minutes when using high-power charging.

The provisional specification for the VLE 300 electric lists energy consumption between 18.6 and 20.4 kWh per 100 km, with zero tailpipe emissions.

Flexible Seating for Up to Eight Passengers

Inside the cabin, Mercedes-Benz has designed a highly adaptable interior layout.

The VLE features seating for up to eight people, with configurable seats that can be repositioned, moved, or removed depending on the journey. Mercedes describes the seating system as “Roll & Go,” with integrated wheels allowing seats to be rolled in and out of the vehicle.

Electric seats can also be adjusted remotely via the vehicle interface or smartphone app in what Mercedes calls “Remote Variable Rear Space.”

Passengers can also opt for Grand Comfort seats, which include:

  • Massage function
  • Lumbar support
  • Wireless charging
  • Calf support and additional cushioning

Rear Entertainment With a 31-Inch 8K Screen

The VLE introduces a dramatic entertainment system for rear passengers.

Hidden within the roof is a 79-centimetre (31-inch) panoramic screen with 8K resolution, designed for watching films, gaming, or even video conferencing during long journeys.

The front of the vehicle features the MBUX Superscreen, which includes three displays under one glass panel:

  • 10.25-inch driver display
  • 14-inch central infotainment display
  • 14-inch passenger entertainment display

The system runs on Mercedes-Benz’s new MB.OS operating system, which uses generative AI to power the MBUX Virtual Assistant.

Luxury Ride With Rear-Axle Steering

Mercedes-Benz has equipped the VLE with AIRMATIC air suspension, which includes level control of up to 40 mm to improve ride comfort.

The vehicle also features rear-axle steering of up to seven degrees, reducing the turning circle to just 10.9 metres. This helps the large vehicle manoeuvre more easily in tight spaces such as city streets or multi-storey car parks.

Sky View Panoramic Roof and Digital Updates

The interior also includes a large Sky View panoramic roof, designed to increase the sense of space inside the cabin. Ambient lighting highlights the roof, while an electric sunblind can block excess sunlight when needed.

Mercedes-Benz says the VLE will also benefit from over-the-air software updates, allowing new features and improvements to be added without visiting a dealership.

A New Chapter for Mercedes-Benz Vans

Mercedes-Benz describes the VLE as the start of a new era for its van lineup.

Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said the vehicle “redefines the notion of space and comfort” while delivering a high level of versatility and innovation.

The VLE is the first model built on Mercedes-Benz’s new electric Van Architecture, which will underpin a future range of electric vans and passenger vehicles.

UK pricing and full specifications are expected to be announced closer to launch.

DM Commentary

The Mercedes V-Class has long been a favourite for executive travel, airport transfers, and chauffeur services across the UK. The new electric VLE looks set to take that formula further by combining long electric range with limousine-level comfort and high-end rear passenger entertainment.

If Mercedes can deliver the claimed range and charging performance, vehicles like the VLE could become very attractive for premium transfer services, where passenger comfort and space are just as important as efficiency.
