Manchester Airport Taxi Driver Has Licence Suspended in Police Crackdown

A taxi driver working out of Manchester Airport has had their licence suspended following a joint enforcement operation carried out earlier this week by Greater Manchester Police and Wolverhampton Council licensing officers.

The coordinated initiative, focused on passenger safety and regulatory compliance, saw over 30 taxi and private hire vehicles inspected at the airport.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Commercial Vehicle Unit (CVU), working alongside Wolverhampton Council’s licensing team under the WVProtect campaign, carried out spot checks to ensure that drivers and vehicles met the required legal and safety standards.

While four drivers were issued with compliance notices for unspecified breaches, one individual faced more serious repercussions — the immediate suspension of their taxi licence.

A spokesperson for GMP Traffic confirmed the enforcement outcome, saying:
“Officers from CVU were working in partnership with WVProtect at Manchester Airport. During the operation, over 30 taxi checks were conducted, with four drivers receiving compliance notices and one driver having their taxi licence suspended.”

The crackdown reflects a growing commitment from law enforcement and regulatory bodies to uphold standards in the taxi and private hire trade, particularly at major transport hubs like Manchester Airport.

The reason behind the licence suspension has not yet been disclosed.
