Major Upgrade Announced for Manchester Airport’s Terminal 3

Manchester Airport is preparing for a major transformation at Terminal 3, as part of its ongoing £1.3 billion redevelopment project. Passengers travelling from T3 can expect new facilities, more space, and a better overall experience when the changes start to take shape from early 2026.

What’s Changing at Terminal 3?

Terminal 3 will see a complete redesign of its entrance, security hall, and departure lounge. Around 40% more seating will be added to ease overcrowding, while new shops, bars, and restaurants will give travellers more choice before they fly.

Among the new outlets confirmed are:

  • Sporting Chance – a 469-seat sports bar with panoramic views of the airfield and big-screen sports coverage.
  • Terracotta – an Italian-themed restaurant, offering passengers a more premium dining option.

Further retail and dining names are expected to be revealed in the coming months.

Linked to Terminal 1 Closure

The expansion of T3 is made possible by the upcoming closure of Terminal 1, which is physically connected to it. With Terminal 2 now taking on the bulk of airport traffic, Terminal 1 will be decommissioned, freeing up space for T3 to grow.

Chris Woodroofe, Managing Director of Manchester Airport, said:
“We’re able to shift our focus to Terminal 3… take advantage of the extra space… and really improve the experience for passengers.”

When Will It Be Ready?

The first phase of the redevelopment will open in early 2026, starting with Sporting Chance and Terracotta. The rest of the project will follow throughout the year, giving T3 passengers a smoother, more comfortable journey.

This is part of the airport’s decade-long transformation, which has already delivered the upgraded Terminal 2, new piers, lounges, and modernised security lanes.

What This Means for Passengers

  • More space and seating in departure areas.
  • Modernised facilities with easier check-in and security.
  • New food, drink, and retail options before flights.
  • Better connections as Manchester Airport continues its biggest investment to date.
