London Taxi PR Marks Two Years of Liverpool Street Taxi Marshals with Seasonal Gift

A women’s safety initiative at Liverpool Street Station has marked its two-year milestone, with taxi marshals receiving a seasonal gift in recognition of their work supporting passengers late at night.

According to a press release sent to DM News, London Taxi PR presented branded Choose Taxi umbrellas to the taxi marshals operating at the Liverpool Street Station taxi rank. The presentation coincides with two years of the Our Safer City Women’s Safety initiative, which was established by the City of London Crime Prevention Association in November 2023.

The scheme provides experienced taxi marshalling services from Thursday to Saturday, between 9pm and 1am, creating a safe and well-managed environment for members of the public — particularly women — choosing to use licensed London black cabs late at night.

Andy Scott, PR and communications spokesperson for London Taxi PR, said the umbrellas were chosen not only as a practical seasonal gift but also to help identify marshals clearly on the rank. He added that the Choose Taxi campaign and the taxi marshal initiative complement each other by highlighting the safety and professionalism of licensed London taxis.

Funding for the scheme is provided through a partnership between Aldgate Connect BID and Eastern City BID, forming part of a wider commitment to creating a safer and more welcoming City of London after hours.

The Our Safer City programme focuses on tackling violence against women and girls, as well as domestic abuse, by bringing together multiple partner organisations. Since the introduction of taxi marshals at Liverpool Street, crime rates in the surrounding area have reportedly fallen from 207 incidents per month in November 2024 to 156 incidents per month by October 2025.

Operationally, the scheme has supported more than 31,500 journeys involving over 57,000 passengers. Over half of those passengers were women, including more than 9,300 solo female journeys, offering a safe transport option during late-night hours when other public transport services may no longer be running.

The taxi marshals include representatives from the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers and the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association. The initiative has been led and coordinated by Don Randall MBE, a senior figure in the security sector with over three decades of industry experience, including 26 years with the City of London Police.

Marshals are positioned at the clearly signposted licensed taxi rank outside Liverpool Street Station and are easily identifiable by high-visibility jackets. Their responsibilities include managing queues, preventing conflict, liaising with police, supporting lone females and vulnerable passengers, and ensuring taxis and passengers move through the rank safely and efficiently.

London Taxi PR says its wider media campaigns promoting licensed taxis are funded entirely by drivers and businesses within the trade, many of whom contribute monthly, demonstrating continued support for safety-focused initiatives within the industry.

DM News Commentary

This is a strong example of how visible, well-run taxi marshalling schemes can make a real difference in busy nightlife areas. Liverpool Street is one of the City’s biggest late-night hotspots, and having trained marshals on the ground adds reassurance for passengers while also supporting drivers working unsocial hours.

While this scheme focuses on London black cabs, the wider lesson applies across the taxi and private hire trade: visible safety measures, partnership working, and proper rank management benefit everyone. As cities continue to extend night-time economies, initiatives like this show how the taxi trade can play a proactive role in public safety rather than being an afterthought.
