Liverpool Uber driver takes on mock driving test – can he still pass?

Liverpool’s own Driver Matty, known for his candid videos about life behind the wheel as an Uber driver, has put his driving skills to the test — literally — in a new YouTube video filmed with his long-time friend and driving instructor, Mick.

In the video, titled “Driver Matty Does a Mock Driving Test – Can a Taxi Driver Still Pass?”, the pair hit the streets of Liverpool to find out whether years of real-world taxi experience have helped or hindered Matty’s ability to meet DVSA test standards.

The test was carried out under authentic conditions, with Mick sitting in the passenger seat acting as examiner while cameras captured both in-car reactions and outside shots of the vehicle navigating typical city routes.

During the drive, viewers get an entertaining look at how professional driving habits sometimes clash with the finer details of the official test — from mirror checks and speed control to signalling discipline and lane positioning.
Despite his experience, Matty admits to feeling the nerves: “It’s mad really — I’ve done thousands of passenger trips, but when you know you’re being marked, it hits different!”

The video blends humour with a serious message — reminding taxi and private hire drivers that safe, consistent driving is a skill that requires continual awareness, even after years on the job. For new drivers or those preparing for a test, Mick also gives useful insights into what examiners look for and how small mistakes can add up.

The light-hearted challenge has struck a chord with the taxi community, with many viewers sharing their own stories of how years on the road have shaped their habits — for better or worse.
