Kia Issues Urgent Recall for Kia Niro Over Fire Risk — Concerns Raised for Uber and Taxi Drivers

Kia UK has issued a critical safety recall notice for certain Kia Niro models due to a potentially dangerous fault linked to the Hydraulic Clutch Actuator (HCA), which could lead to an engine compartment fire. (See Below)

The issue involves the HCA’s printed circuit board (PCB), which may become contaminated with clutch fluid. This contamination could result in an electrical short circuit, posing a serious risk of fire while driving. As part of their quality improvement programme, Kia has urged affected owners to contact their nearest authorised dealer immediately.

What’s especially concerning is the high number of Kia Niro vehicles currently being used by private hire, Uber, and taxi drivers across the UK. With many drivers relying on the Niro for its fuel efficiency, low emissions, and hybrid technology, any mechanical issue that takes their vehicle off the road could have a significant financial impact — especially during busy summer travel periods.

The recall work includes an inspection and potential fuse replacement in the junction box, estimated to take around 30 minutes. If the HCA is found to be faulty and needs to be replaced, repairs could take up to two hours.

Kia has confirmed that this recall is being monitored by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and that letters are being sent to affected owners based on DVLA registration data. Drivers are advised to bring the recall letter with them to the dealership, which will be validated after the repair is completed.

Private hire drivers who depend on the Niro are urged to act swiftly to avoid service interruptions. Affected drivers can find their nearest Kia dealer via the official Kia UK website or by scanning the QR code provided in the recall notice.

For more information or to report issues related to the recall, Kia Customer Services can be contacted on 08000 158757 or via email at [email protected].
