Manchester Airport is set to launch a new barrierless system for vehicle drop-offs and pick-ups, utilizing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. This system is scheduled to go live in late March 2025. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about the new system, along with their answers.

FAQs: Manchester Airport’s Barrierless System & Concession Card Explained

How does the barrierless system work?

Cameras will identify vehicles by their registration numbers as they enter the drop-off or pick-up zones. Drivers will no longer need to stop at barriers to pay upon exit. Instead, they can pay the applicable charges by midnight the following day, either online, over the phone or automatically by creating an autopayment account.

When the new barrierless system goes live:

26 March 2025 – Terminal 2 Upper Forecourt Drop-Off

26 March 2025 – Terminal 2 MSCP West Pick-Up

26 March 2025 – Train, Bus, and Tram Station (GTI) Forecourt Drop-Off

2 April 2025 – Terminal 1 Lower Forecourt Drop-Off

2 April 2025 – Terminal 1 Upper Drop-Off

2 April 2025 – Terminal 3 Forecourt Drop-Off

What Is the Discount for Concessionaire Card Holders?

The discount remains at 40% off the standard forecourt and car park rates.

Do I Still Need My Concessionaire Card When Visiting the Drop-Off or Pick-Up Zone?

For T2 MSCP West, Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and the Bus, Train, and Tram Station you are no longer required to use your discount card when visiting these areas.

As Terminal 3 MSCP uses different technology, you will still be required to present your card for verification and your concession discount will automatically apply when using the registered vehicle and card, so please ensure the correct vehicle is on record.

How Long Do I Have to Pay for Using the Drop-Off and Pick-Up Zone?

Payment must be made by midnight the day after your visit to avoid a Parking Charge being issued to the vehicle holder

How Do I Pay for Drop-off or Pick-up if I Do Not Set Up an Account?

Payments can be made online or by phone; cash or cheque payments will not be accepted. As there are no payment barriers when exiting the Drop-off and Pick-up areas, payment must be made by midnight the following day to avoid a parking charge.

If payment is not received, a £100.00 parking charge will be applied, reduced to £60.00 if paid within 14 days.

How Do I Create An Autopayment Account?

Very simply by visiting pay.manchesterairport.co.uk and submitting your bank details and car details.

How Will It Work If I Have A Concession Card?

Existing concession scheme users will automatically receive their reduced rate for each forecourt transaction. Additionally, businesses with multiple fleet vehicles (more than two) can register a business account for easier management of their vehicles.
