Electric vehicle drivers working on the FREENOW platform could see significant savings on their public charging costs following a new partnership between Octopus Energy and FREENOW.
According to an official press release published by Octopus Energy, the company’s charging platform, Electroverse, has teamed up with FREENOW by Lyft to offer discounts to tens of thousands of EV drivers across Europe.

More Than 40% Charging Savings for UK Drivers
In the UK, FREENOW taxi drivers and fleets are said to be eligible for savings of more than 40% per year on public charging costs when using the Electroverse network.
Octopus states this could equate to around £1,100 back in drivers’ pockets annually, simply by powering up via Electroverse.
The partnership also includes two free months of subscription for fleets, alongside exclusive deals from selected brands.
Rollout Across 180 European Cities
The offer is not limited to the UK. The partnership is rolling out across 180 major cities in:
- Britain
- Ireland
- Germany
- Spain
- Italy
- Greece
- Poland
Octopus says the collaboration will bring its “award-winning charging service” and exclusive deals to tens of thousands of drivers across Europe.
Electroverse provides access to a large public charging network, allowing EV drivers to use one card or app across multiple charging operators.
Full details of the announcement can be found on the Octopus Energy press page.
DM News Commentary
On the surface, this looks like a strong move for EV drivers, especially those heavily reliant on public rapid charging.
One of the biggest concerns for taxi and private hire drivers considering electric vehicles is charging cost and convenience. While home charging remains the cheapest option, many urban drivers — particularly those in flats or without off-street parking — depend almost entirely on public infrastructure.
If drivers can genuinely save over 40% a year, that’s a serious financial benefit. For full-time drivers doing high mileage, £1,100 per year makes a real difference to operating costs.
The key will be how simple the process is and whether the discounted rates apply consistently across the networks drivers actually use day-to-day.
For EV taxi drivers already working through FREENOW, it’s certainly worth looking into.
