Veterans and ex-service personnel in Edinburgh will once again benefit from free taxi journeys to Remembrance Day events thanks to the return of Poppy Cabs.
The initiative, run by the Association of Hackney Carriage Drivers of the City of Edinburgh (AHCDCE), ensures that former members of the Armed Forces can travel with dignity and without financial barriers to key remembrance services across the capital and the Lothians.
When and Where
This year’s service will run on Remembrance Sunday, 9 November 2025, offering free transport to and from remembrance services across Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
The scheme has become a much-valued tradition in the city, helping veterans who may otherwise struggle with mobility or transport costs to attend services and pay tribute to fallen comrades.

How Veterans Can Book a Free Ride
Ex-servicemen and women wishing to use the service can arrange transport directly through the scheme’s coordinator:
- Contact: Jonny Bates
- Organisation: Association of Hackney Carriage Drivers of Edinburgh

The AHCDCE says it is committed to supporting the Armed Forces community and will have a team of licensed Edinburgh taxi drivers volunteering their time and vehicles on the day.
A Long-Standing Tribute
The Poppy Cabs initiative is not unique to Edinburgh. Similar schemes run in other parts of the UK, including London, all with the same goal — to ensure that no veteran is prevented from attending remembrance events due to a lack of transport.
Organisers describe the effort as a “heartwarming tribute” from the city’s taxi trade to those who served their country.
