Duracell enters UK EV charging market with ultra-rapid ‘E-Charge’ network

Duracell, one of the world’s most recognised battery brands, is branching into electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the launch of a new ultra-rapid charging network across the UK.

£200 million investment and 400 kW charging speeds

The new venture, branded Duracell E-Charge, will see an investment of more than £200 million over the next decade. Developed in partnership with The EV Network (EVN) and operated by Elektra Charge, the project aims to deliver a nationwide rollout of ultra-rapid charging hubs designed to meet growing EV demand.

Each charging unit is expected to deliver up to 400 kW of DC power — among the fastest available in the UK — capable of recharging compatible electric cars to 80 per cent in under 30 minutes. Some reports suggest Duracell is already exploring 1,000 kW (1 MW) capability for future expansion, although that figure remains unconfirmed.

Nationwide rollout starting in 2025

The first six Duracell E-Charge sites are scheduled to open during 2025, with further expansion planned throughout 2026 and beyond. By 2030, the company expects to operate at least 100 sites and over 500 charging points across the UK.

Duracell E-Charge hubs will focus on motorway service areas, city gateways, and retail locations, ensuring 24/7 access for long-distance and urban drivers alike. Each site will feature contactless payment, app integration, and a plug-and-go user interface designed for simplicity and reliability.

Built on brand trust

Duracell’s move into public EV charging marks a strategic extension of its heritage in portable power. The company hopes its reputation for reliability will attract drivers frustrated by inconsistent charging experiences elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Duracell Energy — the firm’s home-energy division — will continue to sell its 7 kW “DuraCharger” AC wallbox for domestic use, complementing the public network with a full home-to-highway charging ecosystem.

A strong new contender in the UK charging race

If Duracell delivers on its promises, its 400 kW chargers will rival the top-tier speeds offered by Ionity, Tesla Supercharger V4, and Gridserve Electric Highway.

While pricing, uptime guarantees, and roaming partnerships are still to be confirmed, Duracell’s entry could provide much-needed competition and consumer confidence in the rapidly expanding EV charging sector.
