Denza Z9 GT: BYD’s Luxury EV Claims Up To 644 Miles Of Range

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is expanding its premium offering through its luxury brand Denza, with the launch of the Denza Z9 GT — a high-end electric grand tourer designed to compete with established luxury car manufacturers.

According to the official Denza Z9 GT model page, the vehicle is designed as a performance-focused luxury EV that combines advanced electric technology with a sleek shooting-brake style design. The car sits at the top of Denza’s lineup and showcases the brand’s ambitions in the global luxury EV market.

The Z9 GT is expected to deliver up to 1,036 kilometres (around 644 miles) of driving range under the CLTC testing standard, making it one of the longest-range electric vehicles currently announced.

Performance and Advanced EV Platform

The Denza Z9 GT is built on BYD’s e³ platform, a new vehicle architecture designed to support high-performance electric drivetrains and advanced vehicle control systems.

The car features a powerful multi-motor setup capable of delivering extremely high performance, allowing the luxury EV to accelerate quickly while still focusing on long-distance capability.

Denza positions the Z9 GT as a luxury grand tourer, designed for both performance and comfort on long journeys. The model combines a large battery pack, advanced electronics, and a spacious interior aimed at premium customers looking for a high-tech electric vehicle experience.

Alongside the full electric version, Denza also offers a plug-in hybrid version of the Z9 GT, providing an alternative for drivers who want extended range supported by a petrol engine.

BYD Expanding Its Luxury Brand

Denza originally began as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, though the brand is now primarily controlled by BYD. The company has since repositioned Denza as its premium luxury EV division, targeting markets that traditionally favour brands such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes.

The Z9 GT forms part of BYD’s broader strategy to expand its premium electric vehicle offerings and compete in the global luxury car market.

DM News Commentary

The Denza Z9 GT highlights how rapidly EV technology is evolving, particularly when it comes to driving range — one of the biggest concerns for drivers considering the switch to electric vehicles.

For professional drivers such as taxi and private hire operators, range can make a significant difference to how practical an EV is during long working days. Vehicles capable of travelling hundreds of miles between charges could make electric cars far more attractive for drivers who rely on their vehicles for income.

However, it’s worth noting that the 644-mile figure is based on China’s CLTC testing standard, which generally produces higher range figures than the European WLTP test used in the UK. Real-world driving range is therefore likely to be lower.

Even so, the Denza Z9 GT shows how manufacturers are pushing EV technology forward — and longer-range electric vehicles could become increasingly common over the next few years.
