Cleveland police launch investigation after taxis targeted in middlesbrough thefts

Cleveland Police has launched an investigation following a series of thefts from taxis across Middlesbrough’s Central and Park wards.

Officers say several cabs were broken into, with a man reportedly stealing small amounts of cash from inside the vehicles. Most of the incidents are believed to have taken place overnight between Sunday, 5 October, and Monday, 6 October.

A police spokesperson said officers are actively carrying out inquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage and increasing overnight patrols in the affected areas.

“Whilst enquiries are being carried out, officers would like to share advice with regards to helping to prevent thefts from vehicles, such as removing valuables and small change from view and ensuring that vehicle doors and windows are secure,” a force spokeswoman said.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incidents to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting the relevant reference number, or to report anonymously via Crimestoppers at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

Further crime prevention advice can be found on the force’s website: Vehicle Safe and Sound – Cleveland Police.
