Bournemouth Airport Staff to Strike on Four Dates in Autumn

Bournemouth Airport staff, represented by the Unite union, are set to walk out on 30 September, 1 October, and 16–17 October in a dispute over pay.

What’s Behind the Strike

Around 70 to 80 Unite members working across key areas — including baggage handling, check-in, flight dispatch, and aircraft fuelling — have rejected the employer’s revised offer and voted for industrial action.

The airport says it negotiated in “good faith,” and that its revised deal, which was recommended to staff, was ultimately declined.

Fire service staff, under a separate agreement, have accepted a pay deal and will not participate in the strike action.

Airport Response & Contingency Plans

Bournemouth Airport has confirmed it is putting in place contingency measures to “minimise any impact” from the strike days.

On its website, the airport states it expects to operate a “full schedule as normal” on 30 September and 1 October, and is preparing similar measures for the October strike days.

Passengers are still being advised to check with their airline closer to travel for the latest status updates.

Potential Disruption & Impacts

With staff in essential operational roles set to strike, the risk of delays, cancellations, and baggage-handling issues remains.

Some airlines, including Ryanair, have already stated that they intend to continue operations despite the walkouts.

Union leaders have criticised the airport for expanding and investing while staff remain on low pay, claiming workers deserve a fairer settlement.

Advice for Passengers

  • If you are due to fly on 30 September, 1 October, 16 October, or 17 October, check with your airline well in advance.
  • Arrive early and allow extra time for check-in and baggage.
