London Gatwick Airport’s runway has reopened after a Norse Atlantic Boeing 787 suffered a technical issue during its departure roll, temporarily bringing airport operations to a halt.
The aircraft, identified as Norse flight Z0701 to New York JFK, reportedly rejected its take-off and became disabled on the runway on Friday 4 September. Gatwick said the runway was closed because of a technical issue involving a departing aircraft.
The closure lasted for approximately 50 minutes. During that time, incoming flights were delayed or diverted while the aircraft was dealt with and the runway was unavailable.
The Boeing 787 was towed away before the runway underwent a full safety inspection. Operations resumed after the inspection was completed, but delays continued as the airport worked through the backlog created by the closure.
