Maximum taxi fares across Moray are set to increase from 30 November 2026 after councillors approved a new fare card.
Moray Council’s Licensing Committee agreed the changes at its meeting on Wednesday, 2 September, following the authority’s latest statutory review of taxi fares.
The maximum fare for the first mile of a taxi journey will increase from £3.96 to £4.00.
After the first mile, the maximum charge for each additional tenth of a mile will rise from 33p to 35p.
All other fares, surcharges and additional charges on the Moray taxi tariff will remain unchanged.
The new figures are maximum permitted fares rather than compulsory prices.
Taxi operators and drivers are therefore allowed to charge passengers less than the council-approved tariff if they choose to do so.
The decision follows a formal consultation carried out by Moray Council between May and July 2026.
Taxi operators, community councils and members of the public were invited to provide feedback as part of the review process.

Scottish councils have responsibility for fixing the maximum fares that licensed taxis operating within their areas are permitted to charge.
Moray Council is required to regularly review those fares under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.
The legislation requires local authorities to carry out a taxi fare review at least once every 18 months.
Following the committee’s decision, the new Moray fare card must be implemented by 30 November 2026.
Although the increase to the first mile is relatively small at 4p, the larger change to the subsequent distance rate means the difference will become more noticeable on longer journeys.
For example, every additional tenth of a mile after the first mile will cost up to 2p more under the new maximum tariff.
That means a journey involving several miles beyond the initial mile will see a greater overall increase than the change to the starting rate alone might suggest.
The decision comes as a number of Scottish councils review taxi tariffs during 2026, balancing the rising costs faced by drivers and operators against affordability for passengers.
Moray’s approach leaves the majority of its existing fare structure unchanged while increasing the two main distance-based elements of the tariff.
Passengers should continue to pay the existing maximum rates until the revised fare card comes into effect on 30 November.
