Wallasey Private Hire Driver Arrested After Delivery Worker Injured in Street Incident

A private hire driver has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a delivery worker was injured during an incident on a residential street in Wallasey.

Merseyside Police were called to Rice Hey Road in Egremont at around 4.10pm on Sunday, 23 August, following reports of an altercation involving two drivers.

The delivery worker, a man in his 30s, suffered injuries to his face and head and was taken to hospital for assessment.

According to information attributed to Merseyside Police, the other driver initially left the scene before officers subsequently located a man in his 40s.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault and remained in police custody while enquiries continued.

Reports from the scene indicate that the incident involved a private hire driver and a delivery driver whose vehicles had encountered each other while travelling in opposite directions on Rice Hey Road.

Private Hire & Taxi Monthly, citing eyewitness accounts originally reported locally, said an argument developed before the incident became physical.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or has information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

Anyone contacting Merseyside Police about the incident can quote log 616 of 23 August.

It is important to stress that an arrest does not establish guilt. The man has been arrested on suspicion of an offence and the police investigation is continuing.

The incident comes at a time when licensed private hire drivers operate across Merseyside carrying passengers through residential areas as well as the region’s major transport hubs.
