Surrey Police have launched a witness appeal after a Sunday night out turned ugly in Farnham — with a fight involving up to eight people ending with a taxi being nicked and dumped damaged.
Officers were called following reports of a fight involving up to eight people outside a pub near the taxi rank on Castle Street, Farnham, at around 1.15am on Sunday, 10 May. During the incident, a taxi was stolen and was later recovered with damage.
For licensed drivers, this is the kind of headline that sits uncomfortably. The taxi rank — meant to be a safe, regulated point where the public can pick up a cab — became the backdrop for a serious public order incident.

Police are investigating the affray after the taxi was stolen and later dumped following the early morning melee near the town centre pub. The vehicle was recovered in a damaged state.
Affray, for context, is a public order offence under the Public Order Act 1986. It typically covers fights or threats of violence in public that would cause a “person of reasonable firmness” present at the scene to fear for their safety. It can carry a prison sentence on conviction.
Surrey Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or anyone who has any dashcam, CCTV or video doorbell footage, to come forward, quoting reference PR/45260054139.
