Waymo Driverless Taxi Spotted Driving Through London Traffic

A video circulating on Instagram shows what appears to be a Waymo driverless taxi being filmed while driving through London traffic.

In the short clip, a man filming from inside another vehicle captures the autonomous car travelling in the middle lane of a London road, positioned next to a red London double-decker bus. The vehicle’s unusual appearance is clearly visible in the footage, drawing attention from nearby traffic.

While recording, the man comments on the vehicle, referring to it as a “Waymo taxi” and joking that it “looks like an ice cream van.” He goes on to describe it as “the future of London driving round here” before questioning public uptake, adding: “Who’s gonna use that?”

Sightings like this are guaranteed to spark debate, especially among drivers who already feel pressure from rising costs, licensing rules, and platform changes.

The reaction in the video highlights a wider issue: public trust. Autonomous vehicles may be technically impressive, but acceptance is another matter entirely — particularly in complex environments like London, where buses, cyclists, taxis, and pedestrians all compete for space.

For now, driverless taxis remain more of a talking point than a practical reality on UK streets. But as trials increase and tech firms push visibility, traditional taxi and private hire drivers will be watching closely.
