Liverpool Uber Driver Suspended After Leaving Drunk Passenger on Formby Bypass

During a recent live stream, an Uber driver from Liverpool reached out to Driver Matty for advice after finding himself at the centre of a serious safeguarding concern. The driver explained that he has since been suspended by Uber and placed under investigation following an incident that occurred on New Year’s Eve.

According to the driver’s account shared live, he picked up a young female passenger who was alone and heavily intoxicated. During the journey, the passenger became unwell and vomited inside the vehicle. The driver stated that he then stopped the car, asked the passenger to get out, and left her at the side of the Formby Bypass at around 11pm, before driving off to have his car professionally cleaned.

The seriousness of the situation escalated due to the passenger’s vulnerable state — young, alone, intoxicated, late at night, and left on a fast-moving road. The driver later contacted Driver Matty live on stream to ask what he should do next, at which point he was warned that Uber action was likely and that local licensing consequences could also follow.

At the time of the live discussion, the driver confirmed he was now under investigation and suspended from the Uber platform.

Driver Matty goes live on Twitch, Kick, Facebook & YouTube. (Current Schedule 10 am Monday & Friday)

This is a difficult but important lesson for all drivers — passenger safety must always come first, especially when dealing with vulnerable individuals.

Yes, the passenger had already vomited in the vehicle, and yes, that’s frustrating on one of the busiest nights of the year. But the mess was already done. The correct and safest option would have been to complete the journey, ensure the passenger was dropped off somewhere safe, then submit a cleaning fee through Uber afterwards.

A cleaning charge, no matter how annoying, is never more serious than abandoning a vulnerable passenger on a bypass late at night. Most passengers would far rather receive a cleaning fee than be placed in potential danger.

Uber Drivers carry a duty of care. Decisions made in moments of stress can have long-lasting consequences, including platform suspension, council action, or worse.

This situation is a reminder that safeguarding overrides inconvenience every single time.
