A man from Aldershot is set to be sentenced after threatening a taxi driver with a knife during a dispute over an £8 fare.
According to Hampshire Police, Craig Mahon, aged 35, of Station Road, Aldershot, pleaded guilty to threatening a person with a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place and making off without payment following an incident earlier this month.
The incident took place after Mahon refused to pay his fare, producing a knife and threatening the taxi driver. The driver was reportedly left shaken but unharmed.
Mahon appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on 20 October 2025 and has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at Winchester Crown Court on 21 November 2025.
Police praised the driver for promptly reporting the incident, which allowed officers to locate and arrest the suspect shortly afterwards.

DM News Commentary
Incidents like this highlight the risks taxi and private hire drivers face daily while working alone — often late at night or in poorly lit areas. While violent offences remain rare, even small fare disputes can escalate dangerously.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of safety training, in-vehicle CCTV, and immediate police reporting. As sentencing approaches, local drivers will be hoping for a strong message that violence or threats against transport workers will not be tolerated.
