Oxford taxi driver under investigation after alleged assault on cowley road

Thames Valley Police has launched an investigation after a man was allegedly assaulted by a taxi driver on Cowley Road in Oxford in the early hours of Tuesday, 8 October.

Police said they received a report at around 12:37am of an incident involving a taxi driver and a man who sustained facial injuries. The man’s motorbike was also reported to have been damaged during the altercation.

It is understood the driver holds a taxi licence issued by Oxford City Council.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police confirmed:

“We received a report around 12.37am of an assault in Cowley Road in Oxford. No arrests have been made and our investigation is ongoing.”

Oxford City Council said it has not yet been informed directly about the incident but will take appropriate action once details are shared.

“We have not received any notification regarding this incident,” a council spokesperson said. “If details are provided, we will follow the usual compliance process to ensure public safety.”

The council also highlighted its joint operating framework with Thames Valley Police, which allows for the sharing of information to support active investigations involving licensed drivers.
