A video circulating online has shocked viewers after showing a private hire driver in London urinating in broad daylight in full view of passing pedestrians and vehicles.
The footage, which appears to have been filmed from another car, shows the man standing beside a white private hire vehicle with its hazard lights on while he urinates openly on the pavement.
Witnesses say the incident took place on a busy street, with people seen walking past as the man carried on. The clip has since been widely shared across social media, sparking outrage among members of the public and fellow professional drivers alike.
One viewer commented:
“Absolutely disgraceful behaviour. We all get caught short sometimes, but there are petrol stations for a reason or worst case a pee bottle — not the middle of a public street during the day.”
Another added that incidents like this damage the reputation of hardworking private hire drivers who follow the rules:
“It’s embarrassing for the rest of us. Councils and operators need to deal with people like this quickly.”
Local authorities and private hire operators have not yet confirmed whether any action has been taken, but such behaviour would normally be considered a breach of the licensing code of conduct. Depending on the borough, this could lead to a fine, penalty points, or even suspension of the driver’s licence.
Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and local by-laws, public urination can be treated as an act of public indecency or anti-social behaviour. Transport for London (TfL) also expects all licensed drivers to “maintain high standards of personal conduct at all times while working.”
