Uber is introducing Meet & Greet at UK Airports

Uber is introducing Uber Meet & Greet at Heathrow Airport, which could spread to the rest of the UK Airports.

Uber is planning a new meet-and-greet service that will hopefully increase executive and business bookings. Starting Tuesday, 8 October 2024, if an Uber passenger reserves an executive or luxury Uber at Heathrow Airport, then you have to meet them at the terminal; it is mandatory. Uber passengers can request their airport pick-up 90 days or just 2 hours in advance, so you can plan and know what you’ll be earning before confirming a trip, Uber drivers will have a £15 incentive until the end of October for accepting and completing Uber Meet & Greets.

All the information below is from Uber itself:

How does it work?

  • The rider books an Exec or Lux trip from Heathrow Airport in advance. You can accept these trips in the ‘Opportunities’ part of your Uber Driver app
  • You should be online at least 60 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time.
  • Reach the Arrivals section of the airport by the scheduled pick-up time. We’ll notify you if the landing time changes.
  • You will be notified when the rider is ready to be picked up.
  • Wait in the Arrivals hall with the rider’s name on display (e.g. you can use a piece of paper, write it on the phone, etc.)  until the rider arrives.
  • Pick up the rider, escort them to your vehicle, and get them on their way.

What happens if the rider is late?

Up to an hour of wait time is included in the reservation fee, so you can stay in the waiting area at the airport until the rider is ready to be met. If the rider cancels the trip less than 1 hour before the trip starts, you will receive a fixed cancellation fee.

If the rider doesn’t show up within 1 hour of the intended trip start time, you will be eligible for a cancellation fee if you decide to cancel the trip.  You can also choose to keep waiting for the rider at your discretion.

Where do I park &  what about additional parking charges?

For Meet & Greet trips (i.e. all Exec & Lux reserve airport pickups from Heathrow), you will need to park your vehicle in the short-stay parking for the entire duration and then proceed to the arrivals area inside the airport to receive the rider. 2 hours of parking charges are included as a part of the upfront price of the trip. Part of this will be covered by surcharges shown on your weekly statement, and the remaining amount will be included in the trip fare.

Am I supposed to do a Meet & Greet on all rides?

Meet & Greet will now apply to all Exec and Lux Reserve Airport pickups at Heathrow Airport. For all other trips, your rider will meet you in the pickup point for the airport.

What if I can’t find my rider?

We recommend trying to reach your rider via the in-app call or chat option.

What if I’m running late for the trip?

If you’re running late, we encourage you to reach out to the rider using the in-app call/chat feature to inform them of your updated ETA. Keeping the rider informed can help manage expectations and improve the overall experience.

Are there any additional requirements?

You are not required to wear professional clothing or carry luggage. However, assisting the rider can help to improve their experience which may increase the volume of Uber Reserve Exec & Lux trips.
