Passengers Rescued from Coventry Taxi After Early Morning Crash

Passengers travelling in a taxi had to be cut free by firefighters following a serious two-car collision in the Holbrooks area of Coventry.

The crash happened in the early hours of Sunday morning (31 August) at around 1am, at the top of Hen Lane near the junction with Wheelwright Lane and Holbrook Lane.

Firefighters Use Specialist Equipment

Emergency services – including fire, ambulance, and police – rushed to the scene. Fire crews from Foleshill Fire Station confirmed they used Holmatro cutting equipment to safely extricate the trapped passengers from the taxi.

A spokesperson said:

“We had to extricate the passengers using Holmatro cutting equipment.”

Once freed, the passengers were treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital for further care. Their injuries are not yet known.

Other Driver Fled the Scene

Police reported that the driver of the other vehicle involved fled before emergency responders arrived. Enquiries are ongoing, and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time.

Ongoing Investigation

West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service remained at the scene until the area was made safe and the road was cleared.

Residents in the Holbrooks area reported hearing a “loud crash” shortly after 1am, with some describing the heavy emergency service presence as “frightening”.
