A total of 40 taxi and private hire drivers in Buckinghamshire have had their licences revoked in the past year for a range of serious offences — including sexual assault, drug-related activity, and multiple driving violations — according to a report by The Bucks Herald.
Between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2025, Buckinghamshire Council took disciplinary action against dozens of licensed drivers following investigations by its Licensing Team. The council confirmed that revocations were issued where individuals were no longer considered “fit and proper” to hold a taxi or private hire licence.
The figures released by the council show that:
- Motoring offences were the most common cause of licence loss, including driving without insurance, speeding, and drink or drug driving.
- Criminal offences such as sexual assault, violent conduct, and drug-related crimes also led to permanent bans.
- Dishonesty and non-compliance, including providing false information on applications or failing to report arrests, resulted in further revocations.
The report also revealed that 47 new licence applications were refused during the same period, mainly due to criminal convictions or evidence of dishonesty, while 1,095 new licences were approved — slightly fewer than the previous year’s total.
A Buckinghamshire Council spokesperson told The Bucks Herald the authority remains committed to protecting passengers and upholding safety standards across the local taxi and private hire sector.

DM News Commentary
This report underscores Buckinghamshire Council’s strict approach to driver safety and licensing standards. While some may see 40 revocations as a high figure, it reflects proactive enforcement rather than a growing problem. For drivers and operators, it’s a reminder that the council will not hesitate to act where behaviour, honesty, or criminal activity falls short of the “fit and proper” standard expected in the trade.
